Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our staff follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum framework, which has four core themes:
Unique Child
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and a key person.
Enabling Environments
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning & Development
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.
Seven areas of learning
Within Learning & Development, our staff plan activities to support and stimulate the children’s learning. The curriculum provides experiences in seven areas of learning.
The three prime areas are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
The four specific areas are:
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Art and Design
- Literacy
You can find out more about the EYFS curriculum followed on each group display board. Our staff are always happy to discuss the planned activities and how they relate to your child’s development.
Play and learn
We all want our children to enjoy their nursery setting, but we also want them to learn essential skills that will prepare them for school. Play forms a significant part of children’s development that should not be underestimated.
Benefits of play
Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination and dexterity, as well as their physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. It is important for healthy brain development and to encourage children at a very early age to engage and interact in the world around them.
We believe that play:
- Encourages communication
- Allows children the opportunity to develop speech and language skills as well listening skills
- Improves cognitive development
- Encourages relationship building
Play is the business of childhood, allowing your child free rein to experiment with the world around them and the emotional world inside them.
Observation and Assessment
Online Learning Journal
Each child is enrolled on Tapestry, our secure online learning journal system. The system provides each child attending our nursery with their own online learning journal. Staff and parents are given their own secure log-in details, which enables either party to upload observations, photos or videos.
We record children’s achievements and assess their learning in reference to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum framework. The individual journal builds up a record of your child’s experiences during their time at nursery. This information is later used to support their transition between our nursery and their new school when they leave.
Closed bank holidays and Christmas week.
